This page provides all the regulations you need to know about Geographic Number Portability (GNP) in South Africa. Since April 26, 2010, you can easily switch fixed-line providers and keep your phone number. Before GNP, you could only transfer large groups of numbers, making it difficult to switch providers without losing your contact information.
What is GNP?
GNP lets you choose your fixed-line provider without giving up your phone number. This is a big win for competition, especially for new companies like VoIP providers, who can now attract customers more easily. Before GNP, people were hesitant to switch providers because changing phone numbers was a hassle and could be expensive.
