At the 2015 ICT Achievers Awards Media Launch, Deputy-Minister Mkhize revealed findings from the latest (2012) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) satellite account.

This report details the impact of ICT on the South African economy.
- ICT’s share of the national economy (GDP) was 2.9%, valued at R94.7 billion.
- The ICT sector’s contribution to gross value added (GVA) was R85.9 billion.
- The total output of the ICT sector reached R241.3 billion.
- Estimated ICT taxes amounted to R8.8 billion.
- South Africa imported R105.7 billion in ICT goods and services, while exporting R26.8 billion.
