[14 April 2014]

The South African communications regulator, ICASA, is cleaning up its database of licensees. They issued a notice on April 11, 2014, with several lists to address different situations:

  • List A: These are 106 “untraceable” licensees who haven’t responded to requests for information (financial statements, operation start date, etc.) between September 2012 and July 2013. They need to provide this information and update their contact details by May 30, 2014.
  • List B: Licensees who have already surrendered their licenses. No action required, but they should confirm their surrender status with ICASA.
  • List C: Licensees who are liquidated. ICASA plans to revoke these licenses. Interested parties have until May 30, 2014, to contact ICASA.
  • List D: Licensees that are deregistered or about to be. They need to update ICASA on their status and license operation by May 30, 2014.
  • List E: Deceased licensees*. ICASA plans to revoke these licenses. Interested parties have until May 30, 2014, to contact ICASA.
  • List F: Entities that didn’t complete the 2009 license conversion and lack a valid license. They need to contact ICASA by May 30, 2014.
